A Road Emerges

When we hiked to The Chasm today we were pleasantly surprised to see that CalTrans is making progress.  They removed trees and brush to the left of the destroyed road, added fill, and made a one-lane dirt road. Everything is behind a large fence. We are not sure whether the dirt road will end up getting paved and being our solution, or whether they are planning to build a bridge, but need the dirt road for construction equipment.

The new road is on the left. On the right, you can see where the land slipped from the old road. They've added quite a bit of dirt while also removing a swath of trees.

The CalTrans site gives the end of September as the date when the road will be complete. However, we heard they chose that date because it wasn't so far out that people would start complaining. We will continue to monitor the progress.
