Rain, rain, rain. Living on a ridge, most of the rain has been rolling off the roof, onto the ground, into temporary rivulets, into Sheer Creek, and onward to Santa Cruz. That's where the flooding is happening. But we have had so much rain recently that we are seeing lots of pooling on our property. Our pond is overflowing, the gutters are full of pine needles and need to be unclogged periodically, and the meadow is looking more like a small pond.
The power went out around 5:00 PM. Fortunately I had done all the preparation for a dinner of eggplant curry and tomato raita. There was lots of chopping involved and some blender work. When the lights went out, I needed only to use the gas lighter to light the stove, and we ended up with a delicious dinner by LED light.
The wood stove does an amazing job at keeping the house warm. We went to bed content and warm, but unsure of what the rest of the mountain would be like in the morning. When we lose power, it typically comes back in a few hours. But this time it did not.
