Stormy Weather Update

Writer's picture: Camp CougarCamp Cougar

Today we had rain, snow, sleet, and hail. What fun! Everything is quite green. One of the roads up the mountain—Black Road—was reopened, so we went down to get supplies. The road crew was still scraping up mud, so we had to wait a bit to get through. There is still a section which is eroding from underneath. That part of the road is now one lane.

Notice in this hastily taken photo that the utility lines are fastened to what remains after one of the mud slides. It is amazing that everything is working.

The more major road—Highway 9—continues to be closed with an estimated opening of January 28. This means my commute will be at least 15 minutes longer, and a bit dicey because I'll have to take Black Road. At least I can get down the mountain!

The area around our lower road continues to erode, with roots becoming more exposed and a tree tipping over, taking out a limb of its neighboring oak tree. This shows some of the erosion around the roots.

The tree on the ground fell recently. If you look carefully you can also see the limb of the oak tree that was a casualty.

The rain stopped a few times today and the sun appeared briefly.
