More and more, that Highway 35 chasm is starting to fill in. On our latest trek to check the progress, we noticed a dirt ramp. It turns out that the dirt hill to the right of the ramp is going to be covered with concrete to act as a retaining wall. But builiding the wall requires inserting steel rods horizontally into the hill. The hill is too high and too unstable to allow workers to insert the rods using equipment either from the top or below, so they built a dirt ramp. As they insert the rods, they lower the ramp. They toss the ramp dirt over the side to the left of the flat road (not shown in the photo). Thus filling that side in.There will be another retaining structure on the left, or chasm, side of the road.
